Nyoman Riasa

Nyoman Riasa has been an Indonesian language instructor for over 20 years. Prior to this he was an EFL instructor at the most prestigious English college in Bali and was an EFL lecturer at the biggest government university in Bali. He is currently managing Ngurah Rai University Language Center and is the Program Director of APBIPA Bali (Association of Teachers of Indonesian as a Foreign Language). It is through these two organisations he managed to establish a joint program with the Arizona State University Critical Language Institute (ASU-CLI) in 2016 where he teaches Indonesian language and culture for their annual summer programs at the ASU Tempe Campus. In addition, he has run a similar program with the UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies on Indonesian language and culture.

In 2009 he established CerTIFL Programs for Indonesian nationals interested in the teaching of Indonesian as a foreign language (locally known as BIPA). He has taught the 85th course in March 2023 for a group of lecturers form Singapore, Yogyakarta, Tanjungpinang and Denpasar.

Nyoman earned his Graduate Dip.TEFL (1990) and M.Ed in TESOL (1991) from the University of Sydney, Australia. However, he has dedicated most of his time on the teaching of Indonesian as a foreign language as a IFL instructor as well as IFL teacher trainer.”

Uli Kozok

Dr. Uli Kozok is a renowned author and professor in Indonesian Studies. He is Professor in Indonesian Studies at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, USA from 2001 present. He has dedicated his career to the study of Indonesian language, literature, and culture. Uli Kozok is known for his expertise in the paleography of Island Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. He has published several notable works, including “A 14th Century Malay Code of Laws: The Nītisārasamuccaya.” He plays a crucial role in promoting the understanding and appreciation of Indonesian language and literature. Uli Kozok’s contributions to the field of Indonesian Studies have made him a respected figure in academia.

Research Interests:
Paleography of Island Southeast Asia (especially Indonesia and the Philippines). Prehistory of Southeast Asia and Oceania. Philology and oral literature of Sumatra (Batak, Kerinci, Rejang-Lebong, Lampung). Modern Indonesian Literature. Modern Indonesian Culture and Society. Methodology of Language Learning.
